ASAP HYDRAULIC BRAKE INSTRUCTIONS Step # 1

Your brake will come assembled as you see in the first photo. To fully understand the assembly procedure and the way your new Hyd brake works; disassemble as you see above. Remove the axle nut, slide the caliper/hub assembly off and then remove the brake lining disk by unscrewing the two screws on the back side of the drum.

If the key is not flush with the back side of the drum then make sure it is. With the key flush, tighten up the two set-screws that are already installed in the drum. With the two set-screws fully tightened down on to the axle, re-install the brake lining disk.

This step is IMPORTANT!!! You must install the proper amount of shim/washers between the brake drum and hub so when you fully tighten up the nut, the hub still rotates. But also not so loose, that the lining has to far to move before coming in contact with the caliper. The nut when tightened must not lock up the brake. Also make sure you do not run out of threads in the axle before the nut becomes tight, if you do, add washers under the nut. Further adjustment may be required after completely assembled.

ASAP HYDRAULIC BRAKE INSTRUCTIONS Step # 2

Now that you have the hub installed place a washer on the back side of the drum. Depending on your installation you might require more washers, or even some sort of other spacer. Now the axle can be inserted into your axle tube, this may vary from installation to installation. It is important that when you tighten up your hub nut that the axle tube, spacer or what have you, is holding the drum and you are not only relying on the two little set screws on the inside. This is where more adjustment, by adding or removing shims, may be required. Once you are satisfied with the axle assembly you can secure the axle to the axle tube. This can be done by drilling through both assemblies and inserting a bolt. IMPORTANT Make sure that you have the small bleed screw towards the top, rotate the complete assembly as required, this has to be done before drilling.

For instruction purposes only, we are showing the brake assembly without the tire installed. Of course you would install the tire before completing this next step. We have found a little shortcut during the bleeding process. Loosen the bleed screws and attach a small piece of line and then put the other end into a can or small container. This will catch the excess fluid. We have also supplied a syringe to aid in the brake bleeding process. Refer to main cover page for further bleeding instructions and which fluid type is to be used.
