Blair Carmichael, Proud new 582 Chinook
Plus 2 Owner

"Blair (right) happily accepts the keys to his new
Chinook Plus 2 from Kurt Holomis, the builder.
I have dreamed of owning and
flying my own plane all of my life. Although sometimes I thought
that dream would never happen. My father successfully undertook
his private pilots licence when he was 65 years old, and was
current until he was 79. That gave me hope that being 40 years
younger, I too would fulfill my dream of being a pilot.
This past year, I started
doing research on ultralight aircraft. I was looking for a kit
that would be simple to build, fly, and maintain. I knew I
wanted an advanced ultralight (for passenger carrying
capability). I looked at everything that was out there, and
settled on the Chinook Plus 2 from Aircraft Sales and Parts in
Vernon B.C.
I went on their web-site to
get their contact information, and found that they had just put
their factory built Chinook with a 503 Rotax up for sale. After
asking myself the question, “Am I interested in building?---Or
flying?” The answer was Flying! So, I contacted them
immediately, as I knew this was the plane for what I wanted. I
was greeted by Paulette Holomis, one of the most obliging,
informed people I have ever had the pleasure of dealing with.
She not only answered the myriad of questions I had, but
supplied me with photographs and all manner of history on both
the company and the aircraft.
I went to St. Paul, Alberta
to meet with the builder and was totally impressed by the
manufacturing facility and friendly staff. Kurt is not only a
master builder, he is an Artist. The Chinook is a show plane.
The workmanship was impeccable. I knew that I had to own her.
Completing the transaction, and getting Kurt to change out the
503 for a new 582, as well as adding some gauges and a custom
interior was all accomplished in a matter of weeks.
During that time both
Paulette and Kurt were in constant communication with me to make
sure that every detail was to my satisfaction. On March 30/07 I
picked up C-IFQO with my instructor Dan Pandur of Snowbird
Aviation. We flew her back to the St. Albert Airport without
incidence except for the “Perma Grin” that I am still trying to
deal with. The little White Chinook is one of the smoothest,
handling aircraft that I have ever had the pleasure to fly in.
I feel that through my
dealings with ASAP that I have become part of their family, and
look forward to many years of flying and fellowship with them.
If anyone is looking for a company that goes way above and
beyond anything you could think or imagine, in terms of customer
service, and friendly attitude, give the folks at ASAP a call.
You will not be disappointed.
