Walter Klatt

I have been flying and enjoying my Chinook for almost 2 years now. I had some pretty specific requirements before choosing this airplane. I am a float flying enthusiast, and wanted a plane that was light, strong, and with a higher gross weight that could support floats and a more powerful 4 stroke engine. I also wanted a tandem pusher configuration, which gives the front seat pilot better visibility when trying to get down into those smaller mountain lakes that I like to explore. So after extensive research, I chose the Chinook with the 912 Rotax engine and the Full Lotus floats with amphibs. It has more than met all my expectations and is also a true delight to fly. With both floats and on wheels, I can fly it hands off, no problem. In summer, I have the doors off and just for fun, I can stick my hands out the sides into the wind stream, and by moving my wrists, can do ascents and descents, as well as shallow banked turns.

I also enjoyed building the Chinook. This is the second plane I have built from a kit, and have to say that the instructions and support from ASAP were more than excellent. The kit was very complete right down to the instruments, paint, and battery. They even supplied a tow bar that attaches to the tail wheel to help with moving it in and out of a hangar. Any questions that I had (most were just seeking confirmation about something) were quickly answered by email, often backed up with digital photos. I think I’ve had more trouble assembling some barbeques that building this airplane.

Here is a video clip of my first flight.

And here is a more recent one on floats.
